Now We Are Six
About:
Now We Are Six
By A. A. Milne
My older granddaughter turns six in February and I have been waiting to send her 'Now We Are Six' for it’s a perfect gift for a six-year-old! Part of the Winnie-the-Pooh series, it is a book of poems about Winnie and his friend, Christopher Robin. Illustrations by Ernest H. Shepherd are based on toys owned by the real Christopher Robin Milne – they’re personal favourites and they are in a class of their own. The poems are wonderful and the last one ends:
“…now I am six, I’m as clever as clever
So I think I’ll be six now forever and ever.”
What six-year-old wouldn’t delight in the sound of that?
(I wonder does 66 re-qualify one for any of that cleverness???)

A Note From Mrs. Buttons...
Over the years I have immensely enjoyed many wonderful stories with children at my work and at home. I am pleased to have the opportunity to share here some of the favorites from my bookshelf. Most of my reading/gift recommendations will be for books still readily available; from time to time, however, I will highlight a "backyard treasure" - a book that should be snapped up should you have the great good luck to see it in a yard sale!
I, by the way, concur with C. S. Lewis and George MacDonald that a "good children's book" is one that can be enjoyed at age three or fifty-three.
