Doors in the Air
About:
Doors in the Air
By David Weale
Every year for the past 15 years, TD Bank in partnership with the Canadian Children’s Book Centre has selected one book and placed it in the hands of all grade one students across Canada. Last fall’s choice is Doors in the Air by noted Prince Edward Island author, David Weale! Told in jaunty verse with colorful illustrations by Pierre Pratt it holds an important message for readers of all ages- be aware of all the various kinds of doors around you and be brave enough to use them, especially those “doors in the air” – or imagination. You most likely will come away with a whole new appreciation for doors and all they offer, and perhaps with a newfound or renewed resolve to accept their invitation to explore what lies beyond. There is also an earlier edition of this interesting book, illustrated by Chloe Weale that I would recommend as well if you weren’t lucky enough to have a six-year-old as one of the 540,000 children bring it home before the New Year.

A Note From Mrs. Buttons...
Over the years I have immensely enjoyed many wonderful stories with children at my work and at home. I am pleased to have the opportunity to share here some of the favorites from my bookshelf. Most of my reading/gift recommendations will be for books still readily available; from time to time, however, I will highlight a "backyard treasure" - a book that should be snapped up should you have the great good luck to see it in a yard sale!
I, by the way, concur with C. S. Lewis and George MacDonald that a "good children's book" is one that can be enjoyed at age three or fifty-three.
